You've heard everyone talking about how powerful social media is for marketing your business. How if you're not using it to market your business you're stuck in the 80's. So you go out and create a Face Book page, open a LinkedIn account, start tweeting on twitter, build a Blog and start looking at YouTube. Now what do you do? Time Management- Set out specific times each day that you will spend entirely to social media Marketing. An example of this could be 20 minutes after breakfast or 20 minutes before you go to bed. Once you make a schedule, you're holding yourself accountable and it is much easier to stick to it. In turn, it will eventually become a normal routine. You need to be on all the big sites. Most brands that have succeeded with social media sites generally focus on just a few of them. Just because the media says it's cool to tweet doesn't mean it has anything to do with your business. If you plan to frequent social networks, don't spread yourself too thin. The companies that choose their weapons wisely and give it their all are the ones that succeed in the social space. Social media has also changed and, to a great degree, improved marketing methods. The object of marketing is to get your idea, product or service in front of as many people as possible. Marketing is a teaching tool - it teaches the consumer what the idea, service or product is about and why they need it. Scarcity - If you're wanting to buy a new car and you visit a car yard, imagine seeing one particular car that really catches your eye, the sales person lets you know they're no longer producing such and such a car, and the one they have is the last one available in the country, and perhaps he's got two other interested buyers... does your motivation to purchase that car increase or decrease? Of course it increases; we want to buy it before someone else does. The principle of scarcity is a powerful ally in Social Media Marketing campaigns. With all four of the above mentioned screens available on my desktop, I essentially become a Social Media production company. I am able to create split screens and multi-task the information that I am working with in a number of different ways. At the very same time that I may be tweeting some memorable quote, I can also be expanding on the same thought with an insightful - and sometimes provocative - post to my Facebook Group audience. SM is for every company. Wrong! Your company is going to be competing with 100 hundred other firms in your space to get the attention of online gurus. If your company sells office products, you should probably save your money. digitalprovider I once had a competing recruiter ask a client who was in telecommunications hardware if the marketing person in which they needed to hire had to have experience in the medium. If none of your main competitors have an Alexa rating under 200,000, then creating a buzz through these types of platforms will cost too much money and probably won't have much effect. No one marketing method will win you a new book of business. Think strategically. If you are entering social media into a marriage with existing marketing campaigns, how will it fair? Integration and cohesiveness are two underrated elements in marketing campaigns. If social media doesn't fit will with what you are already doing, you might want to do one of two things. Either change what you're doing, or wait a while before you start on social media. We embrace change and encourage you to as well!
